Ecclesiastical Wedding Insurance - A Review

Wedding Insurance is fast becoming a popular subject amongst couples. Wedding Plan Insurance is useful as it helps ncover for problems, disasters or mistakes on your wedding day, from a broken-down wedding car, to a problem at the wedding venue or just about anything...

Choosing competitive wedding insurance is a task not to be taken lightly. Our wedding insurance reviews will help guide you through when looking for wedding insurance quotes.

thunkpad says:
"Ecclesiastical are the only insurer who have agreed to cover couples affected by the demise of the gift list company Wrapit (see Google for details). They have agreed to cover us despite the fact that Wrapit collapsed two months after our wedding and so after the policy had officially ended. Without Ecclesiastical we could have lost over £2,500-worth of gifts bought by our guests so we are naturally delighted by the pleasant and efficient service they have given us. Unfortunately people who had insurance with Confetti, Debenhams, etc have not been so lucky and in some cases have lost thousands.

It's worth noting that Ecclesiastical is also the company behind M&S wedding insurance but we found it cheaper to go direct."

kateuk says:
"Ecclesiastical Insurance gave me great wedding insurance cover at the lowest price I found. As a long established company, I would trust them not to wriggle out of paying, like some other insurers might."

xeno says:
"I've heard good things of Ecclesiastical Wedding Insurance, in particular that they were the only company that paid out when the gift company wrapit went out of business. I felt this was a positive sign of their willingness to be fair and help couples, something that's obviously very important! They are not the cheapest but they're not the most expensive either, and crucially their policies seem to be the most flexible. You can use their 'mix and match' option so cover various different aspects of your day to different levels. For example, if you're not using a wedding car (perhaps your wedding is at the same place as the reception venue so there's no need) you don't need to include this cover. On the other hand, if your venue is very expensive but you've budgeted strictly in other areas you can have lots of venue-related cover but little for other things. And so on. In the end my policy came to just under £60, which I thought was very reasonable. Their website was easy to use and taking out the policy was painless. One last thing: Ecclesiastical are the company behind Marks and Spencer wedding insurance. M&S don't have any excess(es) on their policy, where Ecclesiastical have £50 on each separate claim. However, M&S cover is not so flexible: the most basic policy is about £50, and the second tier up is £99. So you have to weigh it up: if you want very basic cover M&S may be better, if you want something in the middle Ecclesiastical may be better for you."

peterho says:
"Ecclesiastical Insurance Wedding Insurance would not give my daughters groom (who is a lawyer in Munich) insurance cover as he does not currently have a UK address, I find the company should be ashamed of the prejudice towards non-UK residents."

Ever had a sleepless night, worrying about what could go wrong?

Unfortunately, some of what you've imagined can happen. A bride's most common "nightmare" is usually dress-related…it's damaged or defective, or the bridal salon goes out of business. Severe weather can wash out your big day. These are just some of the risks for one of the biggest investments you'll ever make.

You'd protect your car, why not your wedding?

I have come across this quiz - Is your wedding at risk? Check out the site and see for yourself if your wedding is at risk. Take the Risk Quiz and determine whether your wedding is in need of a wedding insurance for protection.

More about wedding insurance

You can make every effort to ensure that all of your planning details come together for the wedding day of your dreams, but there are many factors outside your control that can profoundly affect or even postpone your special day. The illness of the bride or groom (or a close family member), an unforeseen weather pattern, or a deposit lost to a vendor who goes out of business can all make adjusting or postponing your wedding unavoidable. There's no need to panic however - wedding insurance can safeguard the investment you've made in the perfect wedding, and give you the confidence (plus peace of mind) that your planning and beautiful day are covered. The remarkably affordable policies (starting at less than $195) are specially tailored to meet the needs of couples planning a wedding, and are appropriate for both small and large events.

What Is Wedding Insurance?

Wedding insurance are policies specifically designed to protect you from financial loss in the event your wedding must be canceled or postponed due to circumstances beyond your control, or if one of the major elements of your wedding (e.g., photographs, wedding attire, and/or gifts) is lost or damaged. Most policies respond in the event of a cancellation or postponement resulting from causes ranging from such common concerns as adverse weather and illness, to events that are rarely considered, such as unemployment, military deployment, or acts of terrorism. In addition to providing coverage for cancellation and postponement, many wedding insurance policies include coverage to protect your wedding photography, wedding dress and attendant clothing, jewelry, and gifts from damage or loss. Finally, most wedding insurance programs also provide the ability to purchase liability and property damage coverage that protects the wedding couple against claims for damage to the premises and/or property rented for the wedding reception, as well as host liquor liability. Whatever your situation, there is a wedding insurance policy that is suitable for your needs.

What Is Usually Covered?

Not all wedding insurance policies are alike, and the cost for a policy naturally depends on the coverage limits you need. Some of the areas covered in a typical policy include:
Weather
Generally, if the policy is purchased more than 14 days before the wedding and extremely bad weather prevents the celebration from taking place or a majority of the guests from attending, the cost of rescheduling the event is covered. You should note that stormy skies and light rainfall alone won't qualify as reason enough to cancel your wedding.
Key People
If people crucial to the wedding are unable to attend due to illness or injury, the cost of postponing the event is covered. This also holds true if the officiant fails to appear on your wedding day.
Service Providers
If your caterer doesn't arrive with the food, for example, or the ceremony or reception site burns down or goes out of business, you're covered for the cost of your non-refundable deposits paid and expenses incurred so that you can reschedule your special day. Some policies will also include coverage for the increased cost of replacement items or services, if they are available, to avoid a postponement of your event.

Additional Coverage.
There are a number of additional areas that can be covered by a wedding insurance policy (either as part of a package, or as add-ons at an additional charge). The options include:
Photographs & Video
If your photographer fails to show, if the film used for your photos is defective, or if the negatives are lost, destroyed, or improperly developed, this coverage allows you to reunite the wedding party for a re-shoot.
Gifts
This coverage is designed to protect you against the theft, damage, or loss of your wedding gifts.
Wedding Attire
If your wedding gown or the attire of one of your attendants is lost or damaged, this coverage will provide for repair or replacement.
Loss of Deposits
If one of your vendors goes bankrupt or ceases doing business, this coverage will reimburse you for any deposits you may lose as a result.
Personal Liability
More and more, wedding couples are expected to carry their own liability insurance to protect their ceremony and reception sites against damage to property and injury to guests. Without such coverage, you may be left vulnerable to expensive bills and/or lawsuits.
Rented Property
If you are renting a tent, tables, or chairs for the wedding, this coverage will pay for repair or replacement of the rented property.

Cost And Acquisition.
The cost of wedding insurance generally starts at a one-time premium of less than $195, with a number of the coverage options previously mentioned included. Of course, higher limits and additional coverage options are available with only moderate increases in the premium.

One Last Thing.
Wedding insurance does not cover you for "change of heart." So, if either the bride or groom decides not to go through with the wedding, the people footing the bill will pay out of pocket.

Do you need a wedding insurance?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeffbelmonte

There are various levels of cover available at different prices. See Wedding insurance rated for details.

If you have to cancel the wedding for any unavoidable reason, such as an injury to you or your partner, the policy should pay out if you are out of pocket. This is likely to be one of the most useful areas of cover that policies offer.

Loss or damage

Wedding insurance can also cover you for loss or damage to wedding attire, such as the wedding dress, as well as presents, the wedding cake, rings, flowers and gifts for the guests. Cover starts a set period before the wedding and finishes a set period after – from seven days before to 24 hours after for wedding gifts, for example – but this will vary depending on the policy.

Any loss or theft should be reported to the police within 24 hours.

Failure of suppliers

You’ll be relying on wedding services from a range of providers. Wedding insurance can cover any extra costs you incur up to the policy limit if something goes wrong with these services. Wedding insurance also covers you for deposits you can’t recover or the cost of arranging alternatives if suppliers go bust, but you would already be covered by section 75 if you paid by credit card.

Some insurers, such as Weddingplan, exclude wedding gift providers, such as the recently failed Wrapit.

Another important area covered by wedding insurance is your personal liability for injury to third parties or loss or damage to third party property. You may already be covered for this under your home contents cover but some wedding insurance policies cover the actions of all wedding guests as well as the couple.

Additional areas of cover that some policies offer are for legal expenses, personal accident and stress counselling.

Check the policy details if you are having the reception on a different day from the ceremony or if you are getting married overseas.

Should you take out wedding insurance?

Wedding insurance can protect you against a range of unfortunate events and help you make sure you are not out of pocket as a result, but whether it’s worth taking out ultimately depends on the cost of your wedding and how worried you are about things going wrong.

All aspects of the policy will have exclusions and cover limits and there will also be general exclusions, so check your policy documents carefully. See Wedding insurance rated for selected cover limits.
